Description

Baths of Caracalla tickets with an audio guide app let you walk the imperial ruins at your own pace, past 17 points of interest, in about two hours.

Imperial Rome had public baths with a swimming pool and a gymnasium, and the Baths of Caracalla show how it all worked, with an audio guide on your phone to explain the ruins. Your ticket covers the entry and an app with spoken commentary in five languages: English, German, French, Italian or Spanish, so you can wander without a group for roughly two hours.

The route has 17 points of interest. Built under Septimius Severus and Caracalla, the baths were open to the public and worked as a leisure centre for everyday Romans. The commentary explains the hypocaust, the ancient heating system that warmed the baths, and points you to the swimming pool, the gymnasium and the massage rooms.

  • Entry ticket to the site
  • An audio guide app for the baths and one for Rome's landmarks
  • Five languages to choose from

Look for the surviving mosaics, and listen for how stone taken from the baths was later reused in the building of St Peter's Basilica. After you book, a link arrives by email or WhatsApp to check in and download the app. Bring your own phone and headset, as neither is supplied; the entrance is on Viale delle Terme di Caracalla.
