Description

This Appian Way e-bike tour rides from the Aurelian Walls over ancient paving to the Park of the Aqueducts, with a guide, a Cannondale e-mountain bike and an optional catacombs visit.

On this Appian Way e-bike tour you pass through the gate of St. Sebastian in the Aurelian Walls and roll onto a road that is more than 2,300 years old. With a guide beside you and an electric Cannondale mountain bike under you, the pedalling stays easy and your attention goes to the road itself, the tombs along its edge and the countryside around it.

Mausoleums, tombstones and the remains of the villas of wealthy Romans line the route. Then the ride turns to the Park of the Aqueducts, where long stretches of tall arches stand in the open. You follow them back towards the city and cross the green Caffarella Valley, before a short ride closes the loop at the starting point.

Two versions exist. The 6-hour tour goes underground for a guided visit of the Catacombs of St. Callixtus or of St. Sebastian. The 4-hour tour only stops at the catacombs' entrance for a short explanation.

  • E-mountain bike with anti-puncture tires, helmet and handlebar bag
  • Professional guide and a biodegradable bottle of water
  • About 27 km, 60% of it off-road, at an intermediate level

Small children can come along on a child seat or a child extension, and riders from 9 years old can pedal their own e-bike. Food and drinks are not included.
