Description
A Capuchin Crypt tour in Rome leads you down under Santa Maria della Concezione, into one of the city's more unusual underground sites. Here the story of the Capuchin Order is told through a museum and a series of burial chapels, and you decide how to take it in: with a live guide or on your own.
With the guided option, a licensed guide walks you through the museum and the crypt and explains the history of the Capuchin Franciscans, the symbolism of what you are looking at and the lesser-known stories behind the burials. With the entry ticket option you set the pace yourself, following a multilingual audio guide from room to room.
- The Capuchin Museum, on the order's history
- The Bone Crypt, chapels decorated with human bones in symbolic patterns
- Entry ticket for the museum and the crypt
- Live guide or audio guide, depending on the option you choose
The visit takes about an hour. Because this is a religious place, cover your shoulders and knees, or entry may not be guaranteed; a light jacket and comfortable shoes help. The route is tight and enclosed, so it is not recommended if you suffer from claustrophobia, and it does not suit wheelchair users or people with mobility or breathing difficulties. Food, drinks and transport are not included.
