Description
On this Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill group tour you join a walking group and enter the amphitheatre on pre-booked tickets, so there is no stop at the ticket desk. Inside, the guide describes the crowds that once filled the stands and the gladiators who fought below, and headsets keep every word clear.
The walk then crosses into the Roman Forum, where Roman public life took place. Among temples, basilicas and squares, the guide tells stories about emperors, senators and ordinary citizens. The last stretch climbs the Palatine Hill, the oldest of the city's seven hills and its legendary cradle, where palace ruins sit above wide views of the Forum, the Colosseum and modern Rome.

Expect some insight into the art and building techniques behind the ruins too. The arena floor and underground are not part of this tour; they come only with the English-language arena tour. The order of the sites may change, and the monuments can close wholly or partly for security or public events. Everyone passes a metal detector, and visitors need an ID matching the booked name. The tour is not suitable for wheelchair users, people with back problems or reduced mobility, or anyone over 80.
