Description
This Jewish Ghetto walking tour in Rome starts with a meeting with your guide and a stroll into the oldest Jewish Ghetto in the world. Your guide is Jewish and officially licensed to lead groups through the museum and the synagogue, and that is what sets this visit apart from a walk past the doors.
On the streets of the quarter you hear about the community's traditions and how it endured through the centuries. Indoors come two stops, the National Jewish Museum first and then the Great Synagogue of Rome, where the architecture adds to the guide's story.
The route also takes in two ancient sites:
- Theatre of Marcellus, its ruins
- Portico d'Ottavia, also in ruins
The walk is private and on foot, a good pick if you are curious about Roman history beyond the classic monuments. Food, drinks and the journey to the meeting point are not included. The tour is not suited to people with mobility impairments.
