Description

In the middle of the square is an Egyptian obelisk dating back to the VI century BC and coming from the temple of Isis (Iseum Campense). For it Bernini created the gracious base with the little elephant, called "Minerva’s chick" for its dimension.

The work was carried out by Ercole Ferrata (1667). On the right hand side of the square is the Church of Santa Maria sopra Minerva, on its façade some plaques commemorate the floods of the Tiber from 1598 to 1870.

On the other side of the square, leaning against the monumental Pantheon, can be seen the ruins of the Baths of Agrippa, the first constructed in Rome (27-25 BC).
