This bridge was completed in 1980, at the same time of the official inauguration of the Subway Line (Metropolitana) A. For this reason it was supposed to be called "Ponte della Metropolitana", but since the socialist leader passed away that year, the bridge was named after him in his memory. 
The bridge is 122 m (135 yd) long and 25 m (28 yd) wide and was designed by architect Moretti and engineer Zorzi. It connects the Prati and the Flaminio Quarters together.
