Description

It is located at the bottom of the Rupe Tarpea. In 1385, Giordanello degli Alberini, a condemned noble paide two for the placement of an image of the Vergine Maria to comfort the condemned ones. This is where the church gets its name from. It was built in 1470 and rebuilt based on a project by Martino Longhi il Vecchio in 1583-1600. 

The white travertine façade, which rises on a large modern stairway, embodies two orders: the lower one, divided up by corinthian pilaster strips in five spans and with three portals e con tre portali, is a work by Longhi; the upper one, finished by Pasquale Belli using the same style in 1827, embodies three spans and recalls the attic from the first order, on which one finds statues of saints. 

The interior includes three naves divided by pilasters, and has three apses and five chapels per side.
