Description

The present look of the villa is the result of changes carried out in the first years of the 20th century by the last owners George Wurts and his wife Henrietta Tower. When her husband died, Hernietta gave the villa to Benito Mussolini on condition that it would be a public garden. The park variously arranged in the first years of the century has a rich and particular sculpture decoration, a series of statues and fountains coming from different Lombard villas and realized in the first years of the 18th century. Very interesting is the flora with Italian and Mediterranean samples combined with exotic samples. In the Roman period this little park was a sanctuary dedicated to the nymphs. The main building, still owned by the State, is the seat of the Istituto Italiano di Studi Germanici.
